Polana Sp. zo. o The Company was started in 1999 and at the start there was just one farm called "Ochoza", situated in the South East of Poland in the Lublin area. This farm was a drained peat bog with nothing ever having been grown on it, and also with a lot of work to be done to bring it to the stage where it could be planted. With the history of the ground in mind, it was also ideal for Organic production, and so the farm was registered as Organic and became fully accredited in 2002. The farm is now the largest organic Blueberry farm in the world for fresh pick, with around 100ha now in the ground. In 2005, Polana purchased the farm assets of "Balticblue", comprising two farms in the North West of Poland called "Zelimucha" and "Wielestowo", totalling 346ha ground of which 105ha is Blueberries in full production, with 40ha of 1-3 year old plants in the ground. Polana produced over 1,000 tonnes of fruit in 2007, and together with the 400t from other members, confirms the Berryworld PO Ltd. to be the largest supplier of Blueberries in Europe.
