Richard and Vernon Emery grow soft fruits on their Hampshire farms for marketing through the Berryworld Producer Organisation. They are Tescos Nurture gold standard and also Assured Produce accredited growers.
The Company aims to grow a thousand tonnes of strawberries per annum, mainly with the variety Elsanta and some Everbearer. Production starts in their glasshouses in the middle of April and continues in tunnels through the summer and back into glasshouses with cropping finishing in December.
Estimated production for Blackberries is 90 tonnes, using two varieties: Lochness and Chester. All this production is grown in pots under tunnels with drip irrigation from June through to September.
During 2008 R & V Emery had its first
crop of blueberries with a total of 10,000 plants cropping.
All of the blueberries are grown in
25 litre pots under tunnels with drip irrigation.
All fruit production from the farms
are packed in a purpose built pack house which is BRC accredited.
